Our History

Incorporated in June 2002, the Goldfields Indigenous Housing Organisation (GIHO) is a not-for-profit organisation formed by a merger of several urban Aboriginal organisations operating in the region.

In remote communities GIHO also provides a Tenancy Support Program which builds the capacity of tenants to better look after their houses and provides assistance and training in financial services, health, hygiene and basic home skills. The Program identifies ways to better connect tenants with external resources to live comfortably in their homes.

Since its inception, GIHO has strived to become a benchmark organisation for the delivery of services.  GIHO has been a finalist in:

  • 2011 & 2013 – Finalist Kalgoorlie Boulder CCI Business Awards – Not for Profit
  • 2012 - State finalist WA Regional Australia Community Awards
  • 2013 AIM WA WestBusiness Pinnacle Awards – Regional Small Business Award
